Troubleshooting

If Workbench isn't behaving as expected, this guide covers the most common issues and their solutions. Most problems can be resolved in a few minutes without reinstalling the extension.

Quick Troubleshooting Checklist#

Before diving into specific issues, try these quick fixes:

  • Refresh the current page.
  • Close and reopen the browser tab.
  • Restart your browser.
  • Ensure Workbench is enabled in your browser's extensions.
  • Verify you're signed in if using cloud features.
  • Check your internet connection if cloud sync or AI-powered features are affected.
  • Update Workbench to the latest version.
  • Disable other extensions temporarily to rule out conflicts.

Common Issues#

Workbench Doesn't Appear on Supported Websites#

Possible Causes

  • The extension is disabled.
  • The current website is unsupported.
  • The page loaded before Workbench initialized.
  • Another extension is interfering.

Solutions

1. Refresh the page. 2. Verify Workbench is enabled in your browser. 3. Open a new supported AI chat. 4. Restart your browser. 5. Temporarily disable other browser extensions to identify conflicts.

Try the Following

  • Click the Workbench extension icon.
  • Refresh the page.
  • Ensure the sidebar isn't already collapsed.
  • Check whether overlay or push mode is enabled in your preferences.
  • Restart the browser.

If the issue continues, disable and re-enable the extension.

Floater Button Is Missing#

The floater may have been disabled.

Check:

Settings → Floater

Make sure:

  • Floater is enabled.
  • The current website supports the floater.
  • The sidebar isn't already open (the floater automatically hides in some situations).

Conversations Are Not Being Saved#

Verify

Cloud Sync Isn't Working#

Possible Causes

  • Internet connection issues
  • Authentication expired
  • Cloud sync disabled
  • Temporary server issue

Solutions

  • Sign out and sign back in.
  • Verify cloud sync is enabled.
  • Check your internet connection.
  • Wait a few minutes and try again.
  • Refresh the browser.

Prompt Library Is Empty#

If your prompts are missing:

  • Confirm you're using the correct account.
  • Check whether cloud sync is enabled.
  • Search the prompt library.
  • Verify prompts weren't filtered by tags or models.
  • Restore from a previous backup if available.

Scratchpad Changes Are Not Saving#

Try the following:

  • Wait a few seconds before closing the page.
  • Ensure cloud synchronization has completed.
  • Refresh the page.
  • Restart the browser.

If you're working offline, changes will sync once you're connected again.

AI Features Aren't Working#

Examples include:

  • Prompt optimization
  • Rewrite
  • Summarize
  • Flashcards
  • Quiz generation
  • Tone rewriting
  • AI analysis

Check the following:

  • Internet connection
  • Available AI credits
  • Active account session
  • Temporary service availability

If everything appears normal, retry after a few minutes.

Citation or Hallucination Analysis Doesn't Complete#

Verify:

  • The selected response contains supported citations.
  • The cited websites are publicly accessible.
  • Your internet connection is stable.

Large responses or slow websites may require additional processing time.

Compare Across LLMs Doesn't Work#

Confirm:

  • The feature is available for your plan.
  • Supported AI platforms are selected.
  • You're signed in.
  • Network connectivity is stable.

Retry after refreshing the page.

Keyboard Shortcuts Don't Respond#

Check:

  • Keyboard shortcuts are enabled.
  • Another extension isn't using the same shortcut.
  • The current website supports shortcut functionality.
  • Browser permissions haven't changed.

Restart the browser if necessary.

Import or Export Fails#

Before exporting:

  • Ensure sufficient storage space.
  • Verify the selected export format.
  • Try exporting a smaller dataset if working with a very large library.

Before importing:

  • Confirm the file format is supported.
  • Verify the file hasn't been modified unexpectedly.
  • Ensure the CSV structure matches the expected format.

Slow Performance#

Performance may be affected by:

  • Large prompt libraries
  • Extensive conversation history
  • Numerous active browser extensions
  • Limited system resources

You can improve performance by:

  • Restarting the browser.
  • Closing unused tabs.
  • Disabling unnecessary extensions.
  • Updating your browser.
  • Keeping Workbench updated.

Browser Compatibility#

Workbench is designed for modern Chromium-based browsers.

If you're using an unsupported browser, some features may not function correctly.

Always keep both your browser and Workbench updated to ensure the best experience.

Extension Conflicts#

Some browser extensions may interfere with Workbench.

Common examples include:

  • Sidebar extensions
  • Clipboard managers
  • Website modification tools
  • Privacy or script-blocking extensions

If you suspect a conflict:

1. Disable other extensions temporarily. 2. Reload the page. 3. Re-enable extensions one by one until the conflicting extension is identified.

Resetting Workbench#

If multiple issues occur simultaneously, a clean reset often resolves unexpected behavior.

General reset steps:

1. Close your browser. 2. Disable Workbench. 3. Re-enable the extension. 4. Restart the browser. 5. Sign in again if required.
