Manage Profiles

Manage profiles

The Instruction Profiles tab is the library where profiles are run: every profile as a row, the active one identified, and the three decisions that matter made in place: which profile is active, what each one says, and which ones stay. This page covers the library, marking a profile active, editing, and deleting. Creating a profile is covered in create a profile, and the working toggle in use the active profile.

Prerequisites:

Open the library#

  1. Click the pinned Cognardo Workbench icon to open the pop-up.
  2. Click the instruction profiles icon in the navigation grid. The main extension page opens on the Instruction Profiles tab, with the library in view.

The library#

  • One row per profile: Each profile appears with its name, so a well-named set reads as a menu of your work modes.
  • The active one is identified: The profile currently holding the active role is marked in the list, and everything else waits unchanged.
  • Row controls: Each row carries its management controls: marking the profile active, editing it, and deleting it, covered below.

Mark a profile active#

Switching modes of work is one action here:

  1. Find the profile in the library.
  2. Use the mark-active control on its row.
  3. The role moves:
    1. The chosen profile becomes the active one, and the library marks it.
    2. The profile it replaced keeps its instructions exactly as written and waits in the library.

From then on, with the Use active instruction profile toggle on, every inserted prompt carries the new profile's instructions. The toggle side is covered in use the active profile.

Edit a profile#

  1. Click the edit control on the profile's row. The profile opens with its name and instructions in place.
  2. Change either: rename it for clarity, or rework the rules as the mode of work evolves.
  3. Save the change. The edit is the profile from then on: the next insertion that applies it carries the updated instructions, with nothing to re-select.

Editing never touches the active role. The active profile edited stays active; an inactive one stays waiting.

Delete a profile#

  1. Click the delete control on the profile's row.
  2. The profile is removed from the library. Your saved prompts are untouched: profiles attach at insertion, so nothing in the prompt library ever contained the profile's text.

FAQ#

How do I switch which profile applies to my work?+

Mark a different one active from its row. One action moves the role, and the toggle in the pop-up decides whether the role applies. See use the active profile.

Does editing a profile affect prompts I already inserted?+

No. Insertion places editable text in the chat input, and what landed stays as it landed. The edit reaches the next insertion that applies the profile.

What happens if I delete the active profile?+

The active role empties: prompts insert clean until another profile is marked active. The rest of the library is untouched. Mark the successor first to avoid the gap.

Can I duplicate a profile to build a variant?+

The library's controls are mark active, edit, and delete. To build a variant, create a new profile and carry the shared rules across. See create a profile.

Is the library the same on claude.ai?+

Yes. One library and one active role serve chatgpt.com and claude.ai, and a switch made here lands on both.
