Optimize a Prompt
Optimize a prompt
Optimize rewrites a prompt for clarity, from three different points in its life: while drafting it in the sidebar, while editing it in the Prompt Library, or while it sits in the chat input ready to send. This page covers all three routes and the one requirement they share.
Prerequisites:
- A specific model selected: Optimize needs a concrete target to rewrite for. Custom and All Models are both blocked; choose a specific model first.
- AI credits: Optimize costs 2 credits, shown on the button before you run it.
Optimize before saving, from the sidebar#
- Write or paste the prompt in the sidebar's Act tab, on the Add New Prompt form.
- Choose a specific model — not Custom or All Models.
- Click Optimize (2 credits), review the result, and save if it reads right.
Optimize a saved prompt, from the Prompt Library#
- Open a saved prompt's edit modal on the main extension page.
- Change the model field to a specific model, if it is currently Custom or All Models.
- Click Optimize (2 credits), review the rewrite in place, and save.
Optimize what is already in the chat input#
The floater and the sidebar's quick action both carry an Optimize button for whatever text is currently in the chat box — a separate route from optimizing a prompt on its way into your library.
- Write the draft in the chat input.
- Click Optimize (2 credits) on the floater or the sidebar quick action.
- Review the improved version before sending.
FAQ#
Why can't I click Optimize?+
The model field is set to Custom or All Models. Optimize needs a specific model to rewrite for; choose one and the button becomes available.
Does Optimize replace my prompt automatically?+
Only where it runs in place: the sidebar draft and the Prompt Library modal both update in place, ready to save or discard. Nothing sends anywhere on its own.
Is optimizing a draft the same as optimizing a saved prompt?+
They are two separate routes to the same rewrite: one runs on text in the chat input, the other on a prompt you are drafting or editing in the library. Either way the cost is 2 credits.
Does Optimize work the same on claude.ai?+
Yes, on every route.
Where do I check my remaining credits?+
The Account tab, covered in account settings.
