The Sidebar

The Sidebar

The sidebar is the in-page workspace docked inside the chat platforms: where prompts insert, conversations collect, and every Enhance action and scratchpad live while you work. This page covers opening and closing it, resizing it, and choosing which side it docks to.

Prerequisites:

Open and close it#

  • Open: Click the floater button, or the pop-up's icon.
  • Close: The X button in the sidebar's header.

Closing is purely visual: it collapses without unmounting, so your content and state stay exactly as you left them.

Resize and reposition#

  • Resize: Drag the resize handle. It snaps to one of four fixed widths rather than resizing freely.
  • Move to the other side: The move button in the header flips it between the left and right edge of the screen.

Both the width and the side you choose are global settings shared across every site, not saved per site.

Overlay or push#

The header's overlay/push toggle chooses whether the sidebar sits over the page or pushes the page's layout aside to make room. Unlike width and position, this one is genuinely per-site: Push defaults on for a specific list of verified sites, and Overlay everywhere else.

Keeping it open on a site#

Pinning the sidebar is a per-site choice: a pinned site always forces the sidebar open there. Unpinned, whether it stays open is only remembered for that browser tab, not carried into new tabs.

The footer's quick-nav links — Conversations, Prompts, Scratchpad, Templates, Settings — always open the main extension page in a new tab, leaving the current page and the sidebar's state untouched.

FAQ#

Does closing the sidebar lose what I was working on?+

No. Closing is a visual collapse, not a reset — your content and state are still there when you reopen it.

Can I resize the sidebar to any width?+

Not freely — it snaps to one of four fixed widths.

Is the sidebar's position saved per site?+

No, position and width are both global settings. Overlay-versus-push is the one exception that is per-site.

Does clicking a footer link navigate away from my current page?+

No. Footer links always open in a new tab, so the current page and sidebar stay exactly as they were.

Does the sidebar work the same on claude.ai?+

Yes.
