Change Your Email
Change your email
The email on your account is its identity: it is how you sign in, and where the account's mail arrives. Whether it can change depends on how the account was created: email-and-password accounts change their address from the Account tab, while Google accounts keep the address Google provides. This page covers the change flow and the restriction, and what to check if the new address does not take.
Prerequisites:
- Signed in: The change runs from your account. See sign in to the extension.
- An email-and-password account: Google accounts do not change their address here; the restriction is covered below.
- Access to the new address: The change hands the account's sign-in to the new address, so its inbox must be yours.
Check which account type you have#
The Account tab shows how you signed up. The quicker tell: an account with a password managed in the tab is an email-and-password account; an account with no password there signed in with Google. See account settings.
Change the email#
- Open the Account tab: the pop-up, then the account icon in the navigation grid.
- Find your email in the tab and use the change control beside it.
- Enter the new address.
- Confirm the change:
- Check the address before confirming. It becomes your sign-in.
- Complete any verification the flow asks for on the new address.
- The account now runs on the new email:
- Sign-in uses the new address from here on, with the same password.
- Give the extension a moment to reflect it, then check the Account tab and the pop-up's account menu.
Google accounts keep their Google address#
An account created with Sign up with Google is identified by its Google address, and that link is the account's security: Google vouches for you at every sign-in. The address therefore does not change inside Cognardo Workbench, and there is no password here either; both live with Google.
What this means in practice:
- Your Google address changed? The account follows Google: sign in with Google as always, and the account carries whatever address Google presents for it.
- You want the account on a different address entirely? That is a new account, created with the address you want. Export what matters first, since content belongs to the account that made it. Seeexporting.
FAQ#
Can I change the email on a Google account?+
Not inside Cognardo Workbench. The account is identified by its Google address, and its security lives with Google. An account on a different address is a new account.
Does changing my email change my password?+
No. The address changes, the password stays, and the next sign-in uses the new address with the same password.
Does changing my email affect my data?+
No. Conversations, prompts, scratchpads, and profiles belong to the account, and the account is the same one under a new address. With Enable Cloud Sync & Intelligence on, everything follows as before. See Cloud Sync & Data.
I changed the address but sign-in still expects the old one. What now?+
Give it a couple of minutes, then sign out and back in with the new address. If sign-in still fails on both addresses, seelogin issues.
Does the change affect my subscription?+
No. The plan rides on the account, not the address. Paddle's billing runs on, and the billing portal stays reachable from the website's account page. See manage your plan.
