Generate Flash Cards from a Scratchpad
Generate flash cards from a scratchpad
The Flash Card Generator turns a scratchpad into study material: it reads the collection and builds a deck of two-sided cards, term on the front, explanation on the back. It is the feature that makes a research scratchpad teach: definitions gathered across chats and pages become a set you can drill, not a wall of text you reread. This page covers generating a deck, working through it, and steering what the cards contain.
Prerequisites:
- Signed in, with Cloud Sync & Intelligence on: AI features require the cloud connection and an internet connection. See sign in to the extension.
- AI credits: The action draws on your monthly credit pool. See Enhance.
- A scratchpad with content: The generator builds cards from what the saves collected. See save the last response.
What makes good card material#
Flash cards reward material with a question side and an answer side already in it: definitions, terms and their meanings, steps and what they do, facts with their explanations. A scratchpad built from selection saves of exactly those fragments generates a tighter deck than one that swallowed whole responses. The selection discipline is covered in save a selected response.
Generate the deck#
- Open the scratchpad in the editor: the Scratchpad tab of the main extension page, the scratchpad's row, then edit mode. See edit a scratchpad on the main page.
- Find Flash Card Generator among the controls above the content. The control shows its credit cost.
- Click it. The generator reads the scratchpad's content as it stands and builds the deck.
- The cards open in their own viewer:
- Each card shows its front: a term or question drawn from the content.
- Flip the card to reveal the back: the explanation, from the same material.
- Move through the deck card by card, in either direction.
Your scratchpad stays untouched#
Generation reads the content; it never rewrites it. The scratchpad's text is exactly what it was before the run, so there is no keep-or-discard decision the way there is with Expand / Shorten. Close the viewer and the collection stands as it did.
That also makes the deck steerable: edit the scratchpad, run the generator again, and the new deck follows the new content. Trim what should not become cards, keep what should, and the deck tightens with the collection. See edit a scratchpad on the main page.
FAQ#
Does the Flash Card Generator use AI credits?+
Does generating cards change my scratchpad?+
No. The generator reads the content and builds the deck from it. The scratchpad's text is untouched, before and after.
Can I choose what the cards cover?+
Steer it through the content: the deck follows what the scratchpad holds, so an edit pass before generating (keeping the definitions, cutting the noise) is how you choose. See edit a scratchpad on the main page.
Can I regenerate the deck?+
Yes. Run the generator again whenever the scratchpad changes, and the new deck reflects the content as it stands. Each run draws on your credits.
Does it matter which platform the content came from?+
No. One scratchpad collects from chatgpt.com, claude.ai, and the wider web, and the generator reads all of it the same way.
