Edit a Scratchpad on the Main Page
Edit a scratchpad on the main page
The editor is the one place in Cognardo Workbench where scratchpad content changes. Everywhere else a scratchpad opens in view mode; here, view mode becomes edit mode, and the collection becomes a working draft: notes written alongside captures, material trimmed and reordered, a pile of saves cleaned into something usable. This page covers entering edit mode from the view, working in the editor, and saving your way back out.
Prerequisites:
- Signed in: Scratchpads require a signed-in account. See sign in to the extension.
- A scratchpad with content: The editor works on what the saves collected. See save the last response.
- The library: Editing starts from a scratchpad opened on the main page. See view scratchpads on the main page.
Enter edit mode#
- Open the Scratchpad tab of the main extension page and click the scratchpad's row. It opens in view mode. See view scratchpads on the main page.
- Click the edit control on the open scratchpad.
- The view switches to edit mode:
- The content becomes editable in place, cursor and all.
- The editing controls appear above the content.
- The word count stays live, updating as the content changes.
Active and saved scratchpads edit the same way. Opening one in the editor never changes which scratchpad is active; only the mark-active control does that. See the active scratchpad.
Work in the editor#
- Everything is text, all of it yours: Every save the scratchpad collected sits in one editable body. Trim a capture to the line that mattered, reorder material into an argument, delete what did not survive a second reading.
- Write between the captures: Type anywhere. Notes, headings, and connective sentences turn a pile of saved fragments into a draft, which is the editor's real job: the scratchpad stops being storage and starts being the document.
- The editing controls: The controls above the content cover the working essentials for shaping the text in place.
Save and return#
- Click the save control when the content is where you want it.
- The scratchpad returns to view mode, holding the edited content.
- The edit is now what every surface shows: the view here, the sidebar's Scratchpad tab, the word count in the pop-up row, and whatever inserts from the scratchpad next. With Enable Cloud Sync & Intelligence on, the change follows your account across devices. See Cloud Sync & Data.
What editing pairs with#
- Inserting: An edited scratchpad inserts as edited. The routes back into the chat are covered in insert with the shortcut.
- AI features: The scratchpad's AI actions run on the content as it stands, so an edit pass before running them is the cheap way to better output. See Expand / Shorten.
FAQ#
Can I edit a scratchpad anywhere else?+
No. The editor on the main page is the one place content changes. The sidebar, the pop-up, and the library rows are view mode and state controls throughout. See view scratchpads in the sidebar.
Does editing change which scratchpad is active?+
No. Editing changes content, never state. The active scratchpad stays active, a saved one stays saved, and only the mark-active control moves the role. See saved scratchpads.
Does editing use AI credits?+
No. Editing is free on every plan. Credits apply only to the AI features that run on scratchpad content, such as Expand / Shorten, Flash Card Generator, and Turn into Quiz. See scratchpad AI features.
Do my edits reach the other devices?+
With Enable Cloud Sync & Intelligence on, yes: the edited scratchpad follows your account everywhere you sign in. Off, the edit stays on this device. See Cloud Sync & Data.
Can I undo an edit after saving?+
There is no version history for scratchpads; the saved edit is the content. Edit in passes and save when a pass is sound, and for material you cannot afford to lose, export a copy first. Seeexporting.
