View scratchpads on the main page

The Scratchpad tab of the main extension page is the library: every scratchpad you have, active and saved, in one list with search over it, each opening into a full view of what it holds. The sidebar tab is the collection beside the chat; this is the collection at full width, and the doorway to the editor, the one place content is edited. This page covers reaching the tab, reading the library, and opening a scratchpad in view mode. The editing side is covered in edit a scratchpad on the main page.

Prerequisites:

Open the Scratchpad tab#

  1. Click the pinned Cognardo Workbench icon to open the pop-up.
  2. Click the scratchpad icon in the navigation grid. The main extension page opens on the Scratchpad tab.

Scratchpad also sits third in the left navigation of the main extension page, one click from anywhere in the workspace.

The library#

  • One row per scratchpad: Each scratchpad appears with its name, its word count, and how recently it changed, so the whole collection sizes up at a glance.
  • The active one is identified: The scratchpad currently on duty is marked in the list, and everything else is saved. Which state means what is covered in the active scratchpad.
  • Row controls: Each row carries its management controls, for opening the scratchpad and managing its place in the collection.
  • Search: The search field over the list narrows it as you type. For search across scratchpad content alongside prompts, sequences, and conversations, use Search Anything in the sidebar header instead. See search and filter.

Start a new scratchpad#

The creation control above the library starts a fresh scratchpad, and it becomes the active one the moment it exists: every save routes to it from then on, and the previous active scratchpad joins the saved list with its content intact. The same handover runs from the pop-up's new control and the sidebar tab. The lifecycle is covered in the active scratchpad.

Open a scratchpad in view mode#

  1. Click the scratchpad's row.
  2. It opens in view mode:
    1. The full content reads in place: every save in order, at page width rather than sidebar width.
    2. The name and word count sit above the content.
    3. Nothing is editable yet. View mode is for reading; changing content is a deliberate step further.
  3. Return to the library when you are done, or continue into editing.

From view to edit#

The editor is entered from this view, and it is the one place scratchpad content changes: writing notes alongside captures, reworking material, cleaning a collection into a draft. The transition into edit mode and everything editable is covered in edit a scratchpad on the main page.

FAQ#

Does opening a scratchpad make it active?+

No. Opening from the library is view mode, read-only. The active state changes only through the mark-active control, and viewing never touches it.

Where do I edit the content?+

In the editor, entered from the view you open here. Every other surface is view mode. See edit a scratchpad on the main page.

What is the difference between this tab and the sidebar's Scratchpad tab?+

The sidebar tab is the collection beside the chat: quick reads, quick saves, quick switching. This tab is the full library: everything at page width, search, management, and the way into the editor. See view scratchpads in the sidebar.

How many scratchpads can I keep?+

The count is plan-dependent: the free plan has a cap, PRO raises it, and MAX removes it. For what each plan includes, see pricing.

Is this one library for both platforms?+

Yes. One collection serves chatgpt.com and claude.ai: the same scratchpads, the same active one, the same library on either.
