Insert a scratchpad from the main page
The main page route runs on the clipboard: the copy control on a scratchpad copies its full content, and you paste it wherever it is going. It is the route for working from the library itself, and the only one that reaches beyond the chat sites, because a copied scratchpad pastes anywhere: a document, an email, another tool entirely. This page covers copying a scratchpad and when the clipboard beats the in-page routes.
Prerequisites:
- Signed in: Your scratchpads require a signed-in account. See sign in to the extension.
- Something collected: The route copies from your scratchpads. See save the last response.
- The library: Copying starts from the Scratchpad tab of the main extension page. See view scratchpads on the main page.
Copy a scratchpad's content#
- Open the Scratchpad tab of the main extension page and find the scratchpad. Search narrows the list as you type.
- Check the content first if you need to: open the scratchpad in view mode and read it at full width. What you see is exactly what will copy. See view scratchpads on the main page.
- Click the copy control. A confirmation reads Scratchpad copied, and the full content is on your clipboard.
- Paste it at the destination with Ctrl/Cmd + V: the chat input on chatgpt.com or claude.ai, a document, or any other tool that takes text.
- The pasted text is yours to edit, and nothing is sent anywhere. Trim it, build around it, then use it.

All three take the whole scratchpad as it stands, and none of them sends anything.
FAQ#
Does copying use AI credits?+
No. Copying is free on every plan, like every insertion route. Credits apply only to the AI features that run on scratchpad content. See Expand / Shorten.
Can I paste a scratchpad into tools other than ChatGPT and Claude?+
Yes. The copy lands on your system clipboard, so it pastes into any tool that accepts text. That is this route's advantage: the collection reaches your documents, not only your chats.
Can I copy part of a scratchpad?+
The copy control takes the whole content. For a fragment, open the scratchpad in view mode and copy the passage by hand, or run an edit pass first so the scratchpad holds only what you want. See edit a scratchpad on the main page.
Does copying change which scratchpad is active?+
No. Copying reads content and never touches state. The active scratchpad stays active, and saves keep routing to it. See the active scratchpad.
Which route should I use?+
The shortcut for speed mid-chat, the sidebar when you want the content in sight before it lands, the main page when the destination is beyond the chat or you are already working in the library.
